About the role#
This Software Engineering Co-op position is a full-time, on-site opportunity based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The program runs from January through August 2027, covering both the Winter and Summer 2027 terms. You will work Monday through Friday as part of an engineering team focused on modern avionics and flight technologies.
What you'll do#
- Develop and optimize embedded flight software for safety-critical systems in commercial and military aircraft.
- Write high-performance, deterministic code for embedded environments.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, AI/ML specialists, and software engineers to deliver integrated avionics solutions.
- Implement AI-assisted features including intelligent sensor fusion, anomaly detection, and autonomous control logic.
- Conduct debugging and validation using simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
- Ensure compliance with aviation safety standards like DO-178 and follow secure coding and cyber-resilience practices.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours by the start of the co-op.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Preference is given to candidates with prior RTX work experience.
- Familiarity with high-level programming languages such as C, C++, or Python, as well as Git, DevOps, and AI development tools is preferred.
