About the role#
You will join a team building avionics and flight software for a new vehicle program. We build, integrate, and test everything on real hardware. This role focuses on simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) infrastructure. You will combine software development with hands-on hardware integration. You will own simulation and integration tasks from setup through troubleshooting.
What you'll do#
- Develop 6-DOF flight simulations, including vehicle dynamics, sensor models, and engine models to verify flight software.
- Support HITL testing by integrating flight computers, avionics, sensors, actuators, and cable harnesses.
- Write simulation and test software using C++, with Python and MATLAB for modeling and tooling.
- Troubleshoot hardware using schematics, pinouts, and bench tools like multimeters and oscilloscopes.
- Build tooling for fast, repeatable, and data-rich testing through automation and logging.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering degree program.
- Working proficiency in C++ and a Linux command-line environment.
- Understanding of physics and dynamics, including rigid-body dynamics, reference frames, and equations of motion.
- Hands-on experience with hardware, such as reading schematics, terminating cables, and using bench tools.
- A GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Ability to work on multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Preferred: Knowledge of MATLAB or Python, experience with 6-DOF simulation, HITL, real-time systems, or GNC coursework.
- Preferred: Hands-on experience with robotics, drones, rocketry, or student technical teams like FSAE or CubeSat.
- Preferred: Pursuit of a graduate degree (MS or PhD).
Location & details#
- Location: Los Angeles, California.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site, full-time.
- This position is paid. You must be a U.S. person to comply with export control regulations.
