About the role#
This is a full-time, on-site co-op position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. You will join the Collins Aerospace Core Systems and Libraries team to support the software foundation of modern aircraft. This role requires a commitment to work from May or June through December 2027, which includes the Fall semester. You will contribute to the architecture and development of safety-critical avionics platforms while gaining exposure to industry-standard certification processes.
What you'll do#
- Develop architecture, design, and tooling for core software components aligned to avionics requirements.
- Work on development and verification activities for safety-critical software, specifically following DO-178 standards.
- Create software requirements, perform decomposition, and maintain traceability across complex systems.
- Write and verify software using modern C++ and object-oriented design principles.
- Develop DO-178 certification artifacts, including DAL-A deliverables.
- Engage with customers and regulatory authorities regarding certification efforts.
- Conduct peer reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and program leadership to align technical solutions with objectives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree program in a STEM field, continuing through the end of the internship.
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours by the start of the session.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10 percent of the time.
- Experience with C++ and VxWorks is preferred.
- Experience writing high-level and low-level requirements, as well as test cases and automated test procedures.
- Familiarity with Civil Certification DO-178, specifically DAL-A, is preferred.
- Background in the design and development of flight management systems, aircraft applications, or middleware.
- Prior experience with RTX internships or co-ops is a plus.
