    About the role#

    Radiant is hiring a Materials Engineer Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on-site in El Segundo, California, to support the development of the Kaleidos portable nuclear microreactor. This is a full-time, paid position.

    What you'll do#

    • Plan and execute materials testing to gather properties for design decisions.
    • Develop and qualify manufacturing processes for metals, ceramics, composites, or polymers.
    • Provide guidance on materials selection for Kaleidos components.
    • Identify, procure, and operate equipment for testing and characterization.
    • Evaluate data quality for the company materials database.
    • Define and improve manufacturing processes to meet specific material requirements.

    What you'll need#

    • Current pursuit of a BS or MS in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
    • Hands-on experience with testing or experimentation in a laboratory or production setting.
    • Experience analyzing materials for demanding load cases and environments.
    • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to work well with design and operations teams.
    • Experience with text-based software development tools like Python.
    • Preferred: Enrollment in a Master’s or PhD program in Materials Science, Mechanical, Aeronautical, Nuclear, or Welding Engineering.
    • Preferred: Knowledge of standard material test methods and design allowables.
    • Preferred: Experience with solid-state processing of materials.
