About the role#
Kiewit Industrial and Water Engineering is hiring a Process Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. You will join a multi-disciplinary team to develop infrastructure solutions across North America. This role involves working on conceptual and detailed designs for various industrial and water projects. You will support project execution through technical calculations and the creation of design documentation.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to execute project engineering.
- Assist in the design of industrial water and wastewater systems, desalination plants, biogas facilities, pump stations, and material handling systems.
- Prepare water mass balances, process flow diagrams, and piping and instrument diagrams.
- Create design deliverables that meet industry codes, contract requirements, and internal standards.
- Use software packages to perform process systems and hydraulics modeling.
- Help monitor and update project plans, schedules, and budgets alongside project leadership.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering at an ABET accredited university.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Strong foundational knowledge of Chemistry, Thermodynamics, Hydraulics, and Fluid Mechanics.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suites.
- Familiarity with Aspen HYSYS or other process simulation tools is a plus.
- General understanding of process and water treatment technologies.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and manage multiple assignments with changing priorities.

- This is a full-time, paid internship based in Lenexa, Kansas.
- The role is on-site.
