About the role#
We are looking for students pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering to join our Power Engineering team. As an intern, you will assist with engineering and design duties for transmission, distribution, and substation projects. You will work on projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV, including detailed design and Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) projects.
What you'll do#
- Create design documents and drawings, including bills of materials.
- Generate transmission line design criteria for PLS-CADD.
- Use engineering software to build, modify, and analyze transmission line, pole, and tower models.
- Develop construction assembly drawings, material specifications, and structure loading packages.
- Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings.
- Review project schedules and coordinate activities with project engineers and customer representatives.
- Use the internal document management system and follow corporate standard engineering practices.
- Identify potential project problems and suggest solutions to the responsible team members.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, per-unit mathematics, and symmetrical components.
- Understanding of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate professionally.
- Commitment to regular, reliable attendance and working safely.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions to meet project deadlines.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based in Lenexa, Kansas.
- The position is on-site for the Summer 2027 term.
