About the role#
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work with the POET Design and Construction team to assist with the design, implementation, and specification of plant process systems. You will work under the guidance of Mechanical Engineers to complete assignments and develop your professional skills. This is a full-time, on-site internship for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist with mechanical engineering and drafting tasks, including HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, and process piping.
- Complete data analysis related to mechanical design.
- Assist with on-site commissioning and start-up activities.
- Specify equipment and provide support for procurement and contract administration.
- Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current junior or senior status in an engineering program, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
- Ability to understand the technical and daily operations of a bioprocessing facility.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
- Modality: On-site.
- Travel: Up to 25% travel is required to visit bioprocessing facilities and attend site meetings.
- Physical requirements: The role involves some physical activity, including lifting up to 60 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders, and working in various temperatures ranging from -20 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. You may be required to wear personal protective equipment.
