About the role#
POET is looking for a Data Engineering Intern to join our team in Sioux Falls. This role provides hands-on experience with the systems used to collect, organize, and deliver data across our organization. You will work alongside Data Engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to support our data-driven operations. This internship focuses on providing project experience and exposure to enterprise data systems, tools, and development practices.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain data pipelines to collect, clean, and transform data.
- Write and troubleshoot SQL queries for data retrieval, validation, and analysis.
- Identify and resolve data quality issues.
- Automate manual or repetitive data processes.
- Test and validate new or updated data solutions.
- Create and maintain documentation for systems and pipelines.
- Gain exposure to databases, orchestration tools, APIs, and industrial data systems.
- Contribute to projects that provide measurable value to the business.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL.
- Experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python, SQL, PowerShell, C#, or Java.
- An interest in learning about automation, databases, and enterprise technology.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and a willingness to ask questions.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
