About the role#
NiSource is seeking a Design Engineering Intern for the summer of 2027. You will work alongside engineering staff to support electric and gas facility projects. This 12-week program allows you to gain experience in the utilities industry while collaborating with team members on various tasks. You will participate in professional development and team activities throughout the summer.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate, design, estimate, and manage projects for electric and gas facilities.
- Create job order sketches using AutoCAD.
- Perform field measurements to support project requirements.
- Assemble data to create job order estimates.
- Collect and analyze data while reviewing records.
- Support emergency response efforts if needed, which may include working outside normal hours.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET accredited, four-year engineering program.
- Completion of at least one year of undergraduate study.
- Proficiency with PC applications, specifically AutoCAD, MS Excel, and Access.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship.
- Locations include Columbus, Middleburg Hgts, Mansfield, Toledo, and Cambridge, Ohio.
- The program runs for 12 weeks starting in May 2027.
- Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location.
