About the role#
The ARM Institute is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Co-op for the Fall 2026 or Winter 2027 terms. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. You will work with our engineering team to solve real-world problems. We view this as a chance for students to gain experience in an engineering setting while we learn about potential future hires.
What you'll do#
Your specific tasks will depend on current business needs and your background. You may be involved in:
- Designing robotic cells and production tooling focused on simplicity and speed.
- Programming industrial or collaborative robots.
- Creating vacuum grippers for part manipulation.
- Developing custom tests and fixtures to simulate robotic motion.
- Performing thermal or structural analysis on robots.
- Analyzing test results and field failures to propose redesigns.
- Building digital twins to evaluate system layouts and efficiency.
- Participating in design reviews and customer demonstrations.
- Managing system requirements and verifying performance.
- Using statistical analysis to check tolerance stack-ups.
- Learning about computer vision algorithms and camera models.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or advanced degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- US citizenship.
- A hands-on approach to engineering and a willingness to see projects through to completion.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and a strong work ethic.
- Experience with teamwork and collaboration through extracurricular activities, such as robotics clubs or engineering competitions.
