About the role#
NiSource is seeking a State Affairs Intern for a 12-week program starting in May 2027. You will work within the State Affairs department to support strategic priorities, build professional relationships, and gain an overview of utility operations. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Columbus, Ohio.
What you'll do#
- Support stakeholder engagement and community outreach initiatives.
- Track legislative and regulatory developments.
- Maintain records of engagement with elected officials, community partners, and industry groups.
- Prepare briefing materials, talking points, meeting notes, and summaries.
- Assist with the logistics and coordination of meetings and events.
- Research local government and industry topics to identify emerging issues.
- Complete a capstone project involving research, analysis, and a final presentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a rising junior or senior at an accredited university or college.
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree in political science, communications, business administration, public affairs, public relations, public policy, or government relations.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to travel throughout the Columbia Gas of Ohio service territory.
- Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

- Term: Summer 2027 (12 weeks).

- Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location.
