About the role#
NiSource is seeking a Sustainability Intern to join our Environmental Policy and Sustainability team for the summer of 2027. This 12-week program allows students to work on environmental compliance, policy analysis, and sustainability program development. You will work with team members and internal partners to gain a broad overview of utility operations while completing projects that support our environmental strategy.
What you'll do#
- Review and analyze federal and state environmental policies and guidelines.
- Prepare written summaries of regulations and their potential impact on our business.
- Assist in the development and enhancement of environmental management systems.
- Support data collection, analysis, and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of organizational sustainability practices.
- Develop materials to support team meetings and cross-functional collaboration.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a college or university with a focus in Environmental Science, Public Policy, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong research, writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Status as a student entering their junior or senior year in the fall of 2027.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship located in Columbus, Ohio.
- The program runs for 12 weeks, starting in May 2027.
- This role is on-site. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
