    About the role#

    The Lansing Board of Water & Light is seeking an Environmental Engineer Intern for our Environmental Services Department. You will work under the guidance of a department mentor to support our compliance efforts regarding air, water, waste, and remediation. This is a full-time summer internship running from May 17, 2027, to August 13, 2027.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with environmental stewardship initiatives, including waste tracking, data collection, and outreach.
    • Manage record retention and file reviews.
    • Create procedures and publish tank and chemical inventories to the SharePoint page.
    • Develop SharePoint forms for data collection, such as spill incident reporting or inspection reports.
    • Perform field work, including emergency response and site inspections.
    • Conduct environmental lab analysis and prep glassware.
    • Use standard office software and SAP for daily tasks.
    • Attend training sessions, safety awareness meetings, and skills improvement workshops.
    • Comply with all BWL policies and work rules.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an accredited educational institution with a focus on environmental engineering, chemistry, or a related science field.
    • Junior or senior status during the summer of 2027.
    • Enrollment in fall 2027 classes.
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
    • Ability to work in both a temperature-controlled office and industrial environments with uneven terrain.
    • Successful completion of a background check and substance screening.

    • This position is based in Lansing, Michigan.
    • This is an on-site, full-time internship.
    • The pay rate is $23.00 per hour.
