    About the role#

    The Lansing Board of Water & Light is seeking an Accounting Intern to join our General Accounting Department for the summer of 2027. This full-time internship provides experience in utility accounting and data analysis. You will work under the guidance of a mentor to support our business units and gain exposure to professional accounting workflows.

    What you'll do#

    • Support accounting enhancement projects and learn various analytics.
    • Assist with capital project creation, maintenance, and closure.
    • Perform capital asset reviews and in-service activity.
    • Use SAP to run reports, record transactions, and research ledger history.
    • Complete assigned projects such as account reconciliations and audit support.
    • Provide business units with the tools and knowledge needed for effective decision making.
    • Attend required training and safety awareness sessions.
    • Follow the BWL Safety Manual and comply with all company policies.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an accredited educational institution studying Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Junior or senior status during the summer of 2027.
    • Enrollment in fall 2027 classes.
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • A submitted cover letter.
    • Ability to work on-site and maintain predictable attendance.

    • Location: Lansing, Michigan.
    • Term: May 17, 2027, to August 13, 2027.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Compensation: $23.00 per hour.
    • Physical requirements include occasional field work where you may encounter heat, cold, dust, or noise. You must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
