About the role#
The Lansing Board of Water & Light is seeking a Photographer Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This full-time position, based in the Public Relations & Marketing department, offers hands-on experience in professional photography, digital asset management, and archival preservation. You will work under the guidance of a mentor to build your professional portfolio while supporting the utility's visual communication and historical documentation efforts.
What you'll do#
- Photograph company events, programs, employees, facilities, and community activities.
- Capture professional headshots and leadership portraits.
- Produce staged and on-location images for the corporate stock library.
- Digitize historical photographs by scanning and creating high-quality digital files.
- Manage digital assets by uploading files to the database, applying metadata, and using descriptive keywords.
- Conduct research to identify people, locations, and dates associated with historical materials.
- Maintain file-naming conventions and organizational structures for all photographic assets.
- Follow safety protocols and use required personal protective equipment during fieldwork.
- Attend training, safety-awareness programs, and skills-development sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited institution as a junior or senior in Fine Arts, Public Relations, or a related major.
- Enrollment in classes for the Fall 2027 semester.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Capability to operate a computer and field equipment for extended periods.
- Proficiency in navigating industrial environments and uneven terrain.
- Ability to distinguish small numbers, symbols, and colors on prints.
- Successful completion of a background check, substance screening, and physical.

- The pay rate is $23.00 per hour.
