About the role#
The Lansing Board of Water & Light is seeking a GIS Intern for the summer of 2027. This position offers hands-on experience within a utility environment, supporting the management of Geographic Information Systems. You will work under the mentorship of our team to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects.
What you'll do#
- Assist the GIS Management Department with expanding capabilities and data integrity initiatives.
- Update vertical assets, pull Mapcon data, and work with Survey123.
- Perform data cleanup, collection, digitization, and quality-control tasks.
- Collaborate with GIS developers, administrators, field staff, and management technicians.
- Use standard office software, Esri software, and SAP.
- Participate in the improvement of the Asset Management System.
- Follow all safety policies, including wearing required personal protective equipment during field work.
- Attend training and safety awareness programs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited educational institution in a GIS program, engineering, science, biology, or a related field.
- Junior or senior status during the summer of 2027.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- A cover letter is required with your submission.
- Ability to maintain predictable and reliable attendance.

- Compensation: This is a paid internship at $23.00 per hour.
