About the role#
The Ridership Analysis and Modeling team acts as an internal consultant for New York City Transit. We study ridership patterns and passenger movement to forecast trends across the bus and subway systems. This internship supports our efforts to modernize reporting processes and improve schedule accuracy through data analysis.
What you'll do#
- Update and maintain GIS datasets, including the Bus Lane Segments shapefile and Bus Route LION Matching data.
- Perform spatial data validation, cleaning, and quality assurance to ensure reliable transit planning outputs.
- Integrate GIS datasets with bus speed and operational data to analyze corridor performance.
- Develop and refine geospatial analysis tools and workflows.
- Contribute to the modernization of fixed guideway reporting processes.
- Assist in backend development and data structuring for the OP ArcGIS Online Portal.
- Document data processes, methodologies, and updates to ensure long-term maintainability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align datasets and analytical outputs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program with at least a 2.8 GPA.
- Majors in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as an active team player.
- A keen eye for detail and the ability to prioritize tasks under pressure.

- This is a paid, full-time internship for Fall 2026.
- The role is based on-site in New York, NY.
- Regular, in-person attendance is required.
