About the role#
The Station Planning intern supports the Division of Operations Planning in designing subway and bus service for New York City. You will work on passenger flow analysis, data collection, and environmental reviews. This role involves balancing rider needs with construction requirements and available resources.
What you'll do#
- Calculate Level of Service or egress times for station elements using standard methodologies.
- Measure station elements and count passenger volumes in person.
- Write or refine SQL scripts to pull ridership data by fare control area.
- Build and maintain an Excel-based database on the team SharePoint page.
- Assist managers with quantitative analysis of congestion during construction and station impacts from new subway trips.
- Identify customer wayfinding needs during station closures.
- Summarize calculation results in reports or emails with recommendations.
- Participate in cross-departmental meetings and attend staff meetings to update the team on project progress.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program with at least a 2.8 GPA.
- Preferred majors include Urban Planning or related fields.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.
- Attention to detail.
