About the role#
The Long Island Rail Road Office of Emergency Management is hiring an intern for Winter 2027. This role supports the team responsible for railroad system safety and resilience during emergencies. You will work on-site at the Hillside Support Facility to help coordinate training, manage grant documentation, and assist with daily emergency operations.
What you'll do#
- Provide daily support by scheduling meetings, assisting with emergency coordination calls, and preparing presentations.
- Identify potential funding opportunities, review eligibility criteria, and maintain a database of active and upcoming grants.
- Assist with grant submissions by drafting summaries, collecting documentation, and organizing materials.
- Manage logistics for training sessions, including scheduling, tracking attendance, and preparing materials.
- Maintain project timelines, event budgets, and participation records for reporting.
- Organize department repositories to ensure staff can quickly locate plans and resource inventories.
- Deliver a final project presentation of at least 30 minutes using PowerPoint to summarize your work and learning outcomes.
What you'll need#
- Matriculation in an undergraduate program with at least a 2.5 GPA or a graduate program with at least a 2.8 GPA.
- A major in Political Science or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
