About the role#
The Finance Capital Projects Group Operating team is looking for a co-op student to support budget planning, quarterly forecasting, and financial reporting. You will work with finance professionals and business partners to assist with expense management and continuous improvement. This role provides hands-on experience in financial planning and analysis within a public sector organization.
What you'll do#
- Support the team in tracking financial goals, performance measures, and key reporting activities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to collect data, respond to inquiries, and support financial planning processes.
- Assist with the extraction, validation, and analysis of month-end operating expenditure data.
- Support the development of financial templates and assumptions for annual budget planning and quarterly forecasting.
- Review operating expenses and apply appropriate accounting classifications and financial procedures.
- Analyze financial and operational data to support decision-making.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting tools, and data management practices.
- Contribute to initiatives that enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in a recognized post-secondary co-op program with plans to return to school after the term.
- Enrollment in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Commerce, or a related field.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, or public sector accounting.
- Experience with large datasets and financial analysis.
- Familiarity with Power BI or other data visualization tools.
- Knowledge of accounting principles or financial reporting.
- Previous academic, volunteer, or work experience involving financial analysis, budgeting, or data management.
