About the role#
The Personal and Business Banking Strategic Operations Risk team is looking for an intern to support data-driven risk management, process improvement, and operational excellence. You will work on projects that combine data analytics, process redesign, risk governance, and business communication. This role provides hands-on experience in analyzing large datasets, enhancing operational procedures, and using AI tools like Microsoft Copilot to provide insights to stakeholders.
What you'll do#
- Support the development and execution of strategic initiatives.
- Maintain, monitor, and report on the internal control framework and key risk indicators.
- Manage databases and provide support for analysis, forecasting, and data visualization.
- Perform testing on the design of controls through observation, inspection, replication, and recalculation.
- Review processes to identify opportunities for risk mitigation and propose new or revised controls.
- Document the internal control governance system, processes, and framework.
- Develop tools, checklists, and communications to address gaps, issues, and new requirements.
- Consult with stakeholders to improve the consistency and transparency of metrics and reporting.
- Assist with interpreting new or changing regulations and assessing their impacts.
- Identify where corrective actions are required and escalate findings per guidelines.
- Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or Operations Management.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in risk management, audit, compliance, governance, or project management.
- Knowledge of business and regulatory environments.
- Familiarity with risk policy frameworks and quality control testing frameworks such as SOX 404, COBIT, and COSO.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Collaboration and influence skills.
