Respiratory Therapy Student PRN, Acute

About the role#

The Respiratory Therapy Student position at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital provides hands-on experience in an acute care setting. This PRN role requires a minimum of two shifts per month, including at least one weekend shift, and offers an opportunity to support clinical staff while gaining practical experience in respiratory care.

What you'll do#

• Assist respiratory therapists with the preparation and delivery of patient care.
• Perform routine therapy as delegated by a supervising therapist.
• Assess patient conditions and deliver appropriate treatments.
• Monitor, record, and communicate changes in patient status.
• Educate patients and their families regarding illnesses and available resources.
• Manage respiratory care supplies, including stocking and distributing medical gas cylinders.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in an accredited respiratory therapy program with a minimum of two semesters completed.
• Current State Board of Respiratory Care (Student) status.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within one month of hire).
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certifications are preferred.
