About the role#
The Respiratory Therapy Student position at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital provides hands-on experience in an acute care setting. This PRN role requires a minimum of two shifts per month, including at least one weekend shift, and offers an opportunity to support clinical staff while gaining practical experience in respiratory care.
What you'll do#
- Assist respiratory therapists with the preparation and delivery of patient care.
- Perform routine therapy as delegated by a supervising therapist.
- Assess patient conditions and deliver appropriate treatments.
- Monitor, record, and communicate changes in patient status.
- Educate patients and their families regarding illnesses and available resources.
- Manage respiratory care supplies, including stocking and distributing medical gas cylinders.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited respiratory therapy program with a minimum of two semesters completed.
- Current State Board of Respiratory Care (Student) status.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within one month of hire).
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certifications are preferred.
