About the role#
The Nurse Extern I role provides nursing students with hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of registered nurses. This position supports patient care while helping students develop professional skills in a hospital setting.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including nutrition, personal hygiene, and ambulation.
- Evaluate the learning needs of patients and families and provide education based on their specific circumstances.
- Serve as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in nursing school, specifically within the first or second semester.
- Strong critical thinking skills and sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfort working in a high-stress environment and taking appropriate action.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, which must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Submission of a written essay and a letter of recommendation from a clinical instructor.
Location & details#
- Location: Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
- Schedule: PRN, including 12-hour shifts (days or nights), weekends, and holidays.
- Commitment: Approximately 4 shifts per month.
