About the role#
As a Nurse Extern, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide patient care across various departments, including Med Surg, Telemetry, the Emergency Department, and the ICU. This position involves direct patient interaction and support for the nursing staff in a 199-bed acute hospital setting.
What you'll do#
- Perform basic patient care activities, such as monitoring vital signs, recording intake and output, and performing point of care testing.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, feeding, and ambulation.
- Report abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to the nursing staff.
- Support a family-centered and patient-focused environment.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Help maintain clean and orderly patient rooms and common areas.
- Collect, label, and transport specimens, and insert or remove foley catheters using sterile technique.
- Provide clerical support to the unit as needed.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited Nursing Program.
- Successful completion of the first semester of your nursing program.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
