About the role#
Charles River Medical Associates hires gap year students for the Medical Assistant position. This role provides direct patient care experience for students preparing to attend medical school. You will work on-site in a clinical setting to support physicians and ensure the practice runs smoothly.
What you'll do#
Your primary responsibility is patient flow management. You will bring patients to exam rooms, take vitals, and update patient medical history in the electronic record system. You will also perform protocol-based tests like depression screenings and routine office procedures, including urinalysis, EKG, phlebotomy, spirometry, and injections.
Additional duties include:
- Preparing treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials.
- Assisting physicians and nurses with minor diagnostic procedures.
- Coordinating pre-visit preparations and ensuring labs are completed.
- Managing physician messaging and following up on patient inquiries.
- Scheduling appointments, processing prescriptions, and handling referrals.
- Cleaning and restocking exam rooms while maintaining supply inventories.
- Providing coverage for medical secretaries at the front desk when needed.
What you'll need#
This role is for recent college graduates with excellent grades who plan to attend medical school within the next 1 to 2 years. We require a minimum 12-month commitment. Relevant majors include Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Nursing, and Kinesiology. While prior medical office experience is helpful, it is not required. You must have a strong work ethic and the ability to multitask.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in Framingham, Massachusetts. The role follows a rolling start date.
