About the role#
As an Imaging Extern at UP Health System Portage, you will gain hands-on experience by working under the supervision of imaging technologists. This role involves supporting diagnostic procedures and patient care across our imaging divisions. You will assist with clinical tasks, equipment preparation, and patient support to help our team provide care to the western Upper Peninsula community.
What you'll do#
- Operate stationary and portable diagnostic imaging equipment with guidance from technologists.
- Perform diagnostic radiographic examinations and evaluate images for technical quality.
- Assist with administrative duties including patient registration, filing, and transporting patients.
- Review clinical data, assemble equipment, and maintain accurate patient records.
- Provide age-appropriate care for patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric populations.
- Perform technical duties according to hospital policy and procedures.
- Communicate relevant information to the healthcare team and notify appropriate personnel of necessary follow-up.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Associate of Applied Science program for Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, or Ultrasound Technology.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) certification.
- Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to exercise decisive judgment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Preferred qualifications include graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology, Nuclear Medicine, or diagnostic medical sonographer program, along with ARRT, NMTCB, or RDMS registry status.
