About the role#
As a Nurse Extern at North Alabama Medical Center, you will work directly with the patient care team. This role provides an opportunity to gain clinical experience while supporting the physical and emotional well-being of patients. You will perform your duties under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Help patients with activities of daily living, such as personal hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, and elimination.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions to your supervising nurse.
- Document the care you provide.
- Educate patients and their families based on their specific learning needs.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to coordinate patient care and support.
- Build positive relationships with patients, families, and your coworkers.
- Act as an advocate for the patients you serve.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a nursing program at a university or college.
- A Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of your start date.
