About the role#
As a Nurse Extern at North Alabama Medical Center, you will work directly with the patient care team. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience while supporting the physical and emotional well-being of patients. You will work under the supervision of a registered nurse to deliver care and document patient progress.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as personal hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, and elimination.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions to the supervising nurse.
- Document care provided to patients.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to coordinate transfers, discharges, and referrals.
- Provide education to patients and their families based on their specific learning needs.
- Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and the health care team.
- Act as an advocate for the well-being of every patient.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a nursing program at a university or college.
- BLS certification, or the ability to obtain it within two weeks of your start date.
