About the role#
The Nurse Extern position is part of the Nursing Transition to Practice Program. It allows nursing students to perform skilled clinical duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role is designed to support your growth as you progress through your nursing education.
What you'll do#
- Perform patient assessments and collect clinical data.
- Monitor patient status and obtain specimens.
- Collaborate with an RN to identify patient needs and develop care plans.
- Provide direct patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
- Monitor patient responses to treatment and report changes to the supervising RN.
- Document care in the electronic health record.
- Participate in professional development workshops.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proof of enrollment in an accredited nursing school program.
- Current BLS certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Maintain a nursing school skills checklist on file with the hospital.
- Ability to lift 50 to 70 pounds and walk up to 3 miles per shift.
