About the role#
As a Nursing Intern at Southern Ohio Medical Center, you will work under the supervision of Nurse Managers and Registered Nurses. This role focuses on basic patient care and supporting the comfort of patients. You will rotate through different departments across the hospital to gain experience and attend required training sessions.
What you'll do#
- Work alongside an RN to gain clinical experience.
- Document patient data, including vital signs, intake and output, and pulse oximetry in the EMR.
- Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Monitor patients and report unusual conditions or reactions to the nursing staff.
- Respond to call lights and patient needs.
- Perform clinical tasks such as clean non-sterile dressing changes, bladder scans, and Point of Care testing.
- Remove urinary catheters and discontinue saline locks.
- Maintain the patient environment and perform routine cleaning tasks.
- Collect various specimens, including urine and stool samples.
- Manage bed exit alarms and serve as a patient sitter when assigned.
- Set up wall suctions and manage drainage equipment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an approved school of nursing.
- Completion of a basic patient care course.
- High school diploma or equivalent exam.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

- Location: Portsmouth, Ohio.
- This is a paid, part-time, on-site position.
- The schedule is contingent, meaning you will work as needed.
