About the role#
Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is hiring a Mechanical Design Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site internship based in Lenexa, Kansas. You will work within our drafting and design team to support project goals by creating technical documentation and assisting with mechanical layouts.
What you'll do#
- Draft Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams using SmartPlant P&ID under the guidance of design engineers.
- Create mechanical sketches, detailed drawings, and layouts.
- Develop and review design deliverables to ensure they meet industry codes, contract requirements, and company standards.
- Navigate 3D models to check for interferences and verify constructability.
- Coordinate with construction partners, engineers, and other designers to review project progress.
- Handle miscellaneous tasks to support the ongoing development of the department.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Associates degree program in Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technology or a related field.
- Familiarity with design software such as SmartPlant, AutoCAD, Microstation, Smart3D, or Revit.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work on-site, handle a diversified workload, and communicate professionally with team members.
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds as needed.
