About the role#
GEMCO is a mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation contractor. As an intern, you join real project teams rather than observing from the sidelines. You will be assigned to active HVAC and process piping projects and contribute to their progress from preconstruction through closeout.
What you'll do#
- Log and route submittals and requests for information.
- Requisition materials and track purchase orders through delivery.
- Assist the estimating team with material takeoffs, quantity checks, and pricing support.
- Attend coordination meetings and track issues to resolution.
- Walk sites with the superintendent and foremen to compare installed work against drawings and schedules.
- Support manpower planning and maintain project documentation in Procore.
- Prepare progress, cost, and schedule reports.
- Assist with monthly billing and contract financial tracking.
- Support equipment startup, testing, and commissioning documentation.
- Help with punch list tracking and project closeout deliverables.
- Follow GEMCO safety expectations in the office and on all job sites.
What you'll need#
- Working toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related program.
- Sophomore standing or higher is preferred.
- Ability to work in an office setting and on active construction sites.
- Developing skills in reading plans and specifications.
- Comfort with the math required for material takeoffs and cost tracking.
- Organized, responsive, and willing to ask questions.
- Valid driver license and reliable transportation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
