About the role#
KFI Engineers is looking for a Mechanical Designer Intern to join our team for the Summer 2027 term. This is a paid, full-time position based on-site in St Paul, Minnesota. You will gain hands-on experience in the consulting engineering industry while working on real projects and learning from experienced professionals.
What you'll do#
- Clean up 2D drawing markups in AutoCAD.
- Model 3D elements for structural, piping, electrical, and equipment design.
- Convert hand sketches into CAD drawings.
- Collaborate with designers to learn project details and ask questions.
- Provide project support including plotting, scanning, and document preparation.
- Develop schedules to manage your workload and meet deadlines.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a two-year drafting or AAS degree program.
- Proficiency with computer technology, including MS Office.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage your time and organize tasks effectively.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to adapt to shifting priorities.
- Commitment to professional engineering ethics and company policies.
- Ability and willingness to travel if required.
- Working knowledge of software like AutoCAD or Revit is preferred.
- Interest in building systems, construction, or commercial HVAC.
- Comfort working in both office and construction site environments.
