About the role#
KFI Engineers is looking for a Controls Engineering Co-op to join our Performance Group for the Winter 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Cincinnati, Ohio. We view our co-op program as an investment in our future and offer you hands-on experience in the consulting engineering industry. You will work on real projects, learn from mentors, and gain exposure to various industry sectors.
What you'll do#
- Visit sites to gather field information.
- Perform engineering calculations and build Excel spreadsheets.
- Prepare design documents, including system architecture diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, installation drawings, and equipment specifications.
- Write control sequences of operations.
- Analyze system performance and suggest improvements.
- Write and debug control logic for PLCs, DDC, and similar platforms.
- Develop applications using SCADA and HMI software.
- Use SQL for data collection.
- Assist with startup, commissioning, and fine-tuning of control systems.
- Troubleshoot low voltage control and electrical circuits.
- Participate in meetings to provide analysis and input.
- Assist with project schedules and manage your workload to meet deadlines.
- Write reports and present research to the team.
- Support commissioning and recommissioning activities.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Completion of at least two years of college coursework.
- Proficiency with MS Office and an interest in using engineering software like AutoCAD or Revit.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of control system architecture, panel design, and logic development in PLC or DCS environments.
- Experience specifying instrumentation for flow, pressure, and temperature.
- Interest in building systems, construction environments, or commercial HVAC.
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- Professional engineering ethics and adherence to company policies.
