About the role#
JP Cullen offers a construction engineer student internship and co-op program designed to provide a realistic experience. We aim to challenge students with meaningful work, giving you as much responsibility as you can handle. This role is paid and includes the provision of PPE and professional development opportunities.
What you'll do#
Your specific assignments depend on the needs of your project manager or site superintendent, but you will be exposed to various aspects of field work. Responsibilities include:
- Review and coordinate shop drawings and submittals.
- Update contract documents with necessary revisions.
- Organize and estimate change order work, including contacting subcontractors and preparing cost proposals.
- Evaluate field problems or drawing discrepancies and submit RFIs.
- Update and distribute project schedules using Primavera P6.
- Produce sketches and drawings for the field to clarify construction details.
- Prepare project closeout documents, including record documents and warranties.
- Prepare agendas for and participate in weekly jobsite coordination meetings.
- Monitor subcontractor work, schedules, manpower, and quality compliance.
- Procure project materials and manage delivery schedules.
- Prepare summaries of labor and material costs for backcharge or extra work.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- High attention to detail.
- A willingness to learn.
