About the role#

J.D. Irving, Limited is seeking Engineering Co-op students for the Fall 2026 term. This role offers the opportunity to work within sawmill operations, focusing on project coordination, operational improvements, and site safety. Students will gain hands-on experience by collaborating with mill staff, management, and contractors in a production environment.

What you'll do#

• Coordinate mill projects by determining scope, planning, and executing work packages alongside contractors and mill personnel.
• Lead specific projects in collaboration with sawmill staff and millwrights.
• Partner with senior management and site leaders to drive site-wide improvements.
• Champion safety, quality, and efficiency standards on the production floor.
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of sawmill production processes and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
• Work in a team-oriented environment with operators, unionized tradespeople, and suppliers to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering program in good academic standing, with plans to return to school.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• High energy level with thorough attention to detail.
• Self-motivated with a strong desire to improve operational processes.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities.
• Strong administrative and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
