About the role#
J.D. Irving, Limited is seeking Engineering Co-op students for the Fall 2026 term. This role offers the opportunity to work within sawmill operations, focusing on project coordination, operational improvements, and site safety. Students will gain hands-on experience by collaborating with mill staff, management, and contractors in a production environment.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate mill projects by determining scope, planning, and executing work packages alongside contractors and mill personnel.
- Lead specific projects in collaboration with sawmill staff and millwrights.
- Partner with senior management and site leaders to drive site-wide improvements.
- Champion safety, quality, and efficiency standards on the production floor.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of sawmill production processes and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
- Work in a team-oriented environment with operators, unionized tradespeople, and suppliers to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering program in good academic standing, with plans to return to school.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High energy level with thorough attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with a strong desire to improve operational processes.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities.
- Strong administrative and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
