About the role#
J.D. Irving, Limited is seeking Engineering Co-op students for the Fall 2026 term. This position provides hands-on experience within a sawmill environment, focusing on operational improvement, project management, and site safety. You will work directly with mill staff, management, and tradespeople to support the production of quality lumber products.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate projects by working with contractors and mill personnel to determine scope, planning, and execution of work packages.
- Lead specific projects in collaboration with sawmill staff and millwrights.
- Work alongside senior management and site leaders to drive site-wide improvements.
- Champion safety, quality, and efficiency on the production floor.
- Learn sawmill production processes and identify opportunities for operational improvements.
- Collaborate with mill staff, unionized tradespeople, operators, contractors, and suppliers to ensure projects are completed safely and on time.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering program, with plans to return to school.
- Good academic standing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High energy level and thorough attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with a strong desire to improve operational processes.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities.
- Strong administrative and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
