About the role#
The Refugee Resettlement Intern supports the initial resettlement of humanitarian immigrants in the United States. You will work under the supervision of a caseworker to help clients navigate their first weeks in the country, focusing on housing, orientation, and access to essential services. This role requires an interest in working within a multi-cultural environment and a commitment to helping clients reach economic self-sufficiency.
What you'll do#
- Prepare housing for new arrivals by moving, assembling, and organizing furniture and household supplies.
- Transport clients from the airport to their new homes and provide initial orientation.
- Assist clients in completing applications for public benefits, such as Medicaid and social security.
- Conduct field-based bus orientations to help clients learn the local public transit system.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and service provision in compliance with funder requirements.
- Research and identify community resources to address service gaps.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from a program related to Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, or Human Resources.
- Availability to work 24 to 37.5 hours per week on-site.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle for client transport.
- Ability to lift and move items weighing 50+ pounds, including furniture.
- Strong digital literacy skills, specifically with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Capability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
