About the role#
The Refugee Resettlement Intern supports the resettlement team in providing essential services to newly arrived refugees and humanitarian immigrants. This role focuses on logistics, client orientation, and administrative support to help individuals achieve economic self-sufficiency and social integration. You will report to a caseworker or the casework supervisor.
What you'll do#
- Prepare housing for client arrivals by lifting, moving, unpacking, and assembling furniture and household supplies.
- Transport clients from the airport to their homes and provide initial orientation.
- Assist clients in completing applications for public benefits, such as Medicaid and social security cards.
- Conduct field-based bus orientations to help clients navigate the local public transit system.
- Record client interactions and service data in Microsoft Excel and internal databases to meet funder requirements.
- Research community resources to address service gaps and conduct check-in calls to monitor client status.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent completion of a degree program in Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, or Human Resources.
- Availability to work 24 to 37.5 hours per week (3 to 5 full-time days) on-site.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle for client transport and home set-ups.
- Physical ability to lift and carry items weighing 50+ lbs, including furniture.
- Proficient digital literacy skills with experience in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and maintain attention to detail.
- A strong interest in working within a multi-cultural environment.
