The Refugee Resettlement Intern supports the initial resettlement period for refugees and humanitarian immigrants. Reporting to a caseworker or supervisor, this role focuses on logistical coordination, client orientation, and administrative support to help individuals achieve economic self-sufficiency and social integration. This is an unpaid, on-site internship for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Assist with home set-ups, including lifting, moving, and assembling furniture and household supplies before client arrival.
- Transport clients from the airport to their new homes and provide orientation.
- Complete applications for public benefits, such as Medicaid and social security cards.
- Conduct field-based orientations to help clients navigate the local public transit system.
- Refer clients to external services, including medical screenings and English classes.
- Record client interactions and service provision in databases and Microsoft Excel to meet funder requirements.
- Research and identify community resources to address service gaps.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from a program related to Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, or Human Resources.
- Availability of 24 to 37.5 hours per week (3 to 5 full-time days) for a four-month commitment.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50+ lbs, including furniture.
- Proficient digital literacy skills, specifically with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Strong organizational, communication, and multi-tasking abilities.
- Interest in working within a multi-cultural environment.

- Location: Silver Spring, Maryland.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September – December).
- Note: This position is unpaid, though interns may be eligible for a per diem reimbursement of $15/day for food and travel expenses.
