About the role#
The Occupational Therapy Life Skill Trainer Internship provides an opportunity to gain professional experience in the public health sector while learning about the occupational therapy profession. Interns work under the direction of a staff occupational therapist to support client self-sufficiency and access to community resources. This role involves direct interaction with clients in their homes and throughout the community.
What you'll do#
- Provide life skills training in areas such as budgeting, using kitchen appliances, medication management, and navigating public transportation.
- Assist in teaching group activities, including sessions on financial management and job-seeking skills.
- Document completed activities and client responses to provide to the occupational therapist.
- Coordinate with caseworkers and health team members to support client needs.
- Attend staff meetings as your schedule allows.
What you'll need#
- An interest in working with diverse populations.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English.
- A background in health promotion, social work, or a related field is preferred.
- Candidates must pass a background check and provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Location & details#
- Location: Salt Lake City, Utah.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Commitment: 10 to 20 hours per week for 12 to 14 weeks.
- Modality: On-site.
- This is a paid internship.
