The Extended Case Management (ECM) team provides services to up to 400 new clients each year, including refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian immigrants in the DC Metro area. This internship offers hands-on experience in a resettlement agency, focusing on a holistic approach to address the short-term and long-term barriers faced by families. You will report directly to an ECM caseworker.
What you'll do#
- Conduct check-in calls and send messages to clients to determine the status of service provision and provide guidance.
- Submit and follow up on external referrals for services such as health screenings, housing assistance, and English classes.
- Assist clients with scheduling appointments and navigating systems like medical offices and public benefit offices.
- Help clients complete and follow up on applications for public benefits, including Medicaid, childcare vouchers, and social security cards.
- Research and build community resources to address service gaps.
- Regularly track service provision through electronic data entry and maintain organized client documentation.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or within 12 months of graduation.
- Minimum commitment of 24 hours per week for three months; full-time availability (32-37.5 hours per week) is preferred.
- Proficient digital literacy skills, including experience with MS Excel, Outlook, and Word, and the ability to learn new software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of or interest in learning about public benefits and community resources.
- Academic background in Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Human Resources, or Political Science is relevant to this role.
