About the role#
The Extended Case Management team provides services to refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian immigrants resettling in the DC Metro area. This role supports a caseload of up to 400 new clients each year by addressing short-term and long-term barriers to well-being. Interns report directly to a caseworker and assist with the day-to-day operations of the resettlement process.
What you'll do#
- Conduct check-in calls and send messages to clients to track service status.
- Submit and follow up on external referrals for housing, health screenings, and English classes.
- Guide clients through scheduling appointments and navigating organizations, such as medical offices or public benefit offices.
- Assist with completing applications for public benefits, Medicaid, Social Security cards, and childcare vouchers.
- Research and build community resources to address service gaps.
- Provide public transportation orientations for clients.
- Maintain electronic data entry and organize client documentation.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student status, or graduation within the last 12 months.
- Minimum commitment of 24 hours per week for three months.
- Proficient digital literacy skills, including experience with MS Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of or interest in learning about public benefits and community resources.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
