About the role#
The Extended Case Management (ECM) team provides services to approximately 400 new clients each year at the Silver Spring office. This team supports refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian immigrants resettling in the DC Metro area through a holistic household approach. Interns in this role report to an ECM caseworker to help address short-term and long-term barriers to client well-being.
What you'll do#
- Conduct check-in calls and send messages to clients to determine the status of service provision and provide guidance.
- Submit and follow up on external referrals for services such as English classes, health screenings, and housing programs.
- Assist clients with scheduling and navigating organizations, including public benefit and medical offices.
- Help clients complete and track applications for public benefits, Medicaid, childcare vouchers, and social security cards.
- Research and build community resources to address service gaps.
- Provide public transportation orientations to clients in the field when necessary.
- Track service provision through electronic data entry and organize required client documentation.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student status, or graduation within the last 12 months.
- Minimum commitment of 24 hours per week for three months, including three full working days per week.
- Proficient digital literacy skills, including experience with MS Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of or interest in learning about public benefits and community resources.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Term: Fall 2026 (September through December).
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: This position is unpaid, though interns may be eligible for a $15/day per diem reimbursement for food and travel costs.
