About the role#
The Brennan Center for Justice is seeking an undergraduate intern for the Liberty and National Security Program during the Winter 2027 term. This position provides research, administrative, and clerical support to staff in our New York City office. This is a paid internship offering between 10 and 20 hours of work per week.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research on program issues including surveillance, artificial intelligence, religious and racial profiling, ideological targeting, and counter-terrorism initiatives.
- Track relevant legislation and court cases.
- Copy-edit and cite check research papers, blogs, op-eds, and other materials.
- Assist with scheduling, mailing publications, and maintaining contact lists.
- Attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and conversations.
- Handle general administrative and clerical tasks such as filing, photocopying, answering phones, and shipping.
- Coordinate meetings and draft routine correspondence.
- Assist with travel arrangements and expense reports.
- Cover the reception desk.
What you'll need#
- You must be an undergraduate student in Spring 2027.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
- Ability to be a reliable, punctual, and highly organized self-starter.
- A strong interest in our work and issues.
- Flexibility to handle evolving responsibilities.
