    About the role#

    The Brennan Center for Justice is seeking undergraduate students for an internship within the Liberty and National Security program. This role provides research and administrative support to staff in our Washington D.C. office. You will gain exposure to our work on surveillance, religious and racial profiling, counter-terrorism, and presidential emergency powers. This is an on-site position for the Spring 2027 semester.

    What you'll do#

    • Conduct research on program issues and monitor developments.
    • Copy-edit and cite check research papers, blogs, and op-eds.
    • Assist with scheduling, maintaining contact lists, and mailing publications.
    • Handle administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and shipping.
    • Coordinate meetings and prepare meeting spaces.
    • Assist with travel arrangements and expense reports.
    • Support the front desk and help with event logistics.
    • Attend and observe substantive meetings and events related to our work.

    What you'll need#

    • Status as an undergraduate student for the Spring 2027 term.
    • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
    • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
    • Ability to work independently as a self-starter.
    • High level of organization, attention to detail, and punctuality.
    • A demonstrated interest in our policy issues.
    • Experience with research databases like JSTOR or ProQuest is helpful.

    Location & details#

    • This internship is based in Washington, D.C.
    • The position is on-site.
    • The term runs for the Spring 2027 semester.
    • The role is paid at $18.40 per hour, contingent on university policies regarding credit and compensation.
    • Expected commitment is 10 to 20 hours per week.
