About the role#
The Community Engagement Intern supports the International Rescue Committee in Silver Spring by building connections between the community and the organization. This role focuses on securing resources, including volunteers and donations, to support humanitarian immigrant clients. This is an unpaid, on-site internship for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Conduct outreach to community partners to recruit volunteers based on program needs.
- Support volunteer programming, including onboarding tasks and researching best practices.
- Assist in planning recognition events for community partners and volunteers.
- Create content for social media, newsletters, and outreach materials.
- Track community partnerships across local programs and coordinate in-kind donation opportunities.
What you'll need#
- A minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, with availability for some weeknights and weekends.
- Ability to work in-person at the Silver Spring office.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Creativity and the initiative to follow through on independent projects.
- A passion for immigration, refugee support, and serving others.
- Preferred academic backgrounds include Human Resources, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Political Science, or Communications.
