About the role#
The Community Engagement Intern supports the International Rescue Committee in Silver Spring by building connections between the community and the organization. This role focuses on securing volunteer and in-kind resources to support humanitarian immigrant clients. The internship term runs during the Fall 2026 semester, from September through December.
What you'll do#
- Conduct outreach to community partners and coordinate meetings to recruit volunteers.
- Support volunteer programming by assisting with the onboarding process.
- Plan events designed to recognize community partners and volunteers.
- Create content for social media, newsletters, and other outreach materials.
- Track community partnerships across various programs.
- Coordinate opportunities for in-kind donations.
What you'll need#
- A minimum commitment of 24 hours per week.
- Ability to work in-person at the Silver Spring office.
- Availability to work some weeknights and weekends.
- Passion for immigration, refugee support, and serving others.
- Creativity and the initiative to follow through on assigned projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.

- Location: Silver Spring, Maryland.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September - December).
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Interns may be eligible for a per diem reimbursement of $15 per day to offset food and travel costs.
- Requirements: Attendance at an in-person intern orientation on September 7th, 2026, is required. Selected applicants must complete a background check.
