About the role#
The Community Engagement Intern supports the International Rescue Committee in Silver Spring by building connections with the local community. This role focuses on securing resources, including volunteers and donations, to support humanitarian efforts for immigrant clients. You will gain experience in non-profit programming, cross-cultural communication, and data reporting for resettlement services.
What you'll do#
- Conduct outreach to community partners to recruit volunteers.
- Support volunteer onboarding and suggest program improvements based on feedback.
- Plan events to recognize volunteers and community partners.
- Create content for social media, newsletters, and outreach materials.
- Track community partnerships across various programs.
- Coordinate in-kind donation opportunities.
What you'll need#
- A minimum commitment of 20 to 24 hours per week.
- Ability to work in-person at the Silver Spring office.
- Availability for some weeknights and weekends.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Creativity and initiative to manage projects independently.
- A strong interest in immigration, refugees, and serving others.
- Academic background in fields such as Human Resources, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Political Science, or Communications.

- Term: Fall 2026 (September through December).
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: This internship is unpaid. Interns may be eligible for a per diem reimbursement of $15 per day to offset food and travel costs.
