About the role#
Intake services interns support the International Rescue Committee in Baltimore by assisting the intake team with daily activities. This team serves as the first point of contact for refugees, asylees, parolees, and secondary migrants. You will help welcome new arrivals and contribute to their self-sufficiency by conducting eligibility assessments and connecting them with relevant programs.
What you'll do#
- Meet directly with individual clients and families to conduct intake assessments.
- Assist clients with intake appointments, either remotely or in-person.
- Maintain case files and prepare service documentation through case notes.
- Support the organization of weekly intake days at the office.
What you'll need#
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Prior experience or interest in working with refugees and immigrants is preferred.
- Prior experience or interest in social work or case management is preferred.
- Students in Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Human Resources, Public Health, or International Relations are encouraged to apply.
Location & details#
- This is a hybrid internship based in Baltimore, Maryland.
- The role requires in-person attendance on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM to 2 PM, and Fridays from 9 AM to 3 PM.
- The internship lasts for 14 weeks, starting with a mandatory orientation on September 14, 2026, and ending on December 18, 2026.
- A minimum of 15 hours per week is required.
- This position is unpaid.
