About the role#
The Adult Education Intern supports the adult education program staff in providing services to refugees, asylees, and immigrants in northern New Jersey. This role involves assisting with classroom management, student intake, and administrative tasks to ensure clients have access to English language instruction, cultural orientation, and job readiness training.
What you'll do#
- Assist with on-site intake and enrollment procedures.
- Administer, grade, and document pre-test and post-test assessments for students.
- Support classroom activities by assisting instructors, managing attendance, and providing technical support.
- Communicate with clients to follow up on attendance and conduct course feedback surveys.
- Perform data entry and assemble information for reports using internal databases and spreadsheets.
- Help clients enroll in external adult education programs within the community.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary institution or graduation within the last two years.
- Undergraduate studies in education, humanities, social sciences, international relations, or a related field.
- US citizenship or valid US work authorization.
- Effective communication skills and strong attention to detail.
- A strong desire to help refugees rebuild their lives.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- A TESOL certificate or degree is preferred.
- Proficiency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Arabic, Dari/Farsi, Pashto, or Kiswahili is a plus.

- This is an on-site position located in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
- This is an unpaid internship.
- The term is based on a rolling schedule.
