The Adult Education Intern supports the adult education program in northern New Jersey. This role assists staff in providing educational services to refugees, asylees, and immigrants, including English language instruction, cultural orientation, digital literacy, and job readiness training. This is an unpaid, full-time internship with a rolling start date.
What you'll do#
- Assist with on-site intake and enrollment procedures.
- Administer, grade, and document standardized and non-standardized pre-test and post-test assessments for students.
- Support classroom activities, including managing attendance, providing technical support, and assisting with classroom management.
- Act as a substitute instructor when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of client communication and follow up on student attendance.
- Perform data entry and assemble information for reports using internal databases and spreadsheets.
- Conduct course feedback surveys with clients.
- Assist clients in enrolling in external community education programs.
What you'll need#
- Must be a U.S. citizen or hold valid U.S. work authorization.
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution or a recent graduate (within the last 2 years).
- Undergraduate studies in education, humanities, social sciences, international relations, communications, human resources, psychology, or a related field.
- Effective communication skills and excellent attention to detail.
- A strong desire to help refugees rebuild their lives.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment with patience and flexibility.
- A Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate or degree is preferred.
