About the role#
The Asylum Seeker Legal Team Intern supports immigration legal staff in providing services to asylum seekers and other immigrants. This role involves direct client interaction, administrative case management, and legal support within a multicultural environment. The position reports to the Immigration Supervisor.
What you'll do#
- Assist immigration staff in providing services to clients, including setting up legal consultations.
- Draft immigration applications, such as Asylum, Employment Authorization, and TPS, under the supervision of an immigration attorney.
- Perform research on various immigration issues.
- Provide translation and interpretation services when necessary.
- Perform follow-up communication with clients.
- Maintain client files and ensure all documentation is sorted and filed accurately.
- Adhere to organizational policies regarding confidentiality and client privacy.
What you'll need#
- Undergraduate level studies in social sciences, international relations, sociology, psychology, nursing, human resources, or a related field, or current law student status.
- Proficiency in Spanish is required.
- Competency in Microsoft Office, data tracking, and file management.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Commitment to a minimum of 15 hours per week, with a preference for those available for 35+ hours.
