About the role#
The Children's Health Promotion Intern supports the Children's Legal Services (CLS) program in New York. This role focuses on helping unaccompanied children navigate health systems and access necessary care. This is an unpaid internship that may be pursued for academic credit.
What you'll do#
- Assist clients with Medicaid and New York Child Health Plus applications, documentation, and follow-up.
- Facilitate health and wellness transportation orientations to help clients navigate public transit.
- Accompany clients to medical appointments to assist with check-in and confirm the availability of interpretation services.
- Assess and monitor client needs to provide appropriate community referrals.
- Research and develop health resources for CLS clients.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a master’s degree program in public health, social work, or a related field.
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Experience working with diverse populations, particularly in health and wellness contexts.
- Lived or working experience with refugee or immigrant populations is highly desirable.
