The Children’s Legal Services (CLS) program in New York provides legal representation to unaccompanied children. The Children’s Health Promotion Intern supports this program by helping clients navigate health systems and access essential services. This position is unpaid, though it may be pursued for academic credit.
What you'll do#
- Assist clients with Medicaid and New York Child Health Plus applications, documentation submission, and follow-up.
- Facilitate health and wellness transportation orientations to help clients navigate public transit.
- Accompany clients to medical appointments to assist with check-in, verify coverage, and confirm interpretation services.
- Assess and monitor client needs to provide appropriate community referrals.
- Research and develop health resources for CLS clients.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a master’s degree in public health, social work, or a related field.
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Experience working with diverse populations, particularly in health and wellness contexts.
- Lived or working experience with refugee and immigrant populations is highly desirable.
