About the role#
The Asylum Program Support Intern will assist the case management program for asylum seekers in New York City. This role provides hands-on experience in immigration advocacy and direct service delivery. Interns will gain insight into the current landscape for asylum seekers in NYC, including the legal process and available social services, while supporting staff in providing assistance with healthcare, public benefits, housing, and legal services.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the coordination and facilitation of group orientations for potential program clients.
- Conduct research on referral opportunities and available resources in New York City to enhance the support service network.
- Support client enrollment into programs for which they qualify.
- Document client interactions in accordance with established requirements.
- Help maintain and organize referral records and databases.
- Collaborate with staff to develop program materials and support caseworkers in connecting clients to external services.
- Administer client satisfaction surveys and assist with creating internal and external tools.
What you'll need#
- A strong interest in immigration issues, social justice, and advocacy work.
- Excellent research and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, multi-lingual team environment.
- Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online research tools.
- Must be enrolled in or have graduated from a post-secondary institution within the last two years.
- Ability to engage in sensitive conversations regarding topics such as labor trafficking, domestic violence, and family separation.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Spanish is required.
