Asylum Program Support Intern

About the role#

The International Rescue Committee in New York is seeking interns to support a case management program for asylum seekers. This role provides hands-on experience in immigration advocacy and social services, assisting recent arrivals in New York City with access to healthcare, public benefits, housing, and legal services.

What you'll do#

• Assist in the coordination and facilitation of group orientations for potential program clients.
• Support client enrollment into programs for which they qualify.
• Conduct research on referral opportunities and available resources throughout New York City.
• Document client interactions and maintain referral records and databases in accordance with established requirements.
• Support caseworkers in connecting clients to external services and community resources.
• Assist with program administration, including maintaining client files across multiple platforms and administering client satisfaction surveys.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in a post-secondary institution or graduation within the last two years. Candidates with at least two years of direct service experience will also be considered.
• A strong interest in immigration issues, social justice, and advocacy work.
• Excellent research and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, multi-lingual team environment.
• Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and Spanish is required.
• Ability to engage in sensitive conversations regarding topics such as labor trafficking, domestic violence, and family separation.
