    About the role#

    The Health Education & Promotion Intern supports the Refugee Health Program (RHP) by assisting caseworkers and healthcare navigators in connecting newly arrived refugees and immigrants to essential services. This role focuses on health literacy, benefit navigation, and the development of educational resources to help clients rebuild their lives in New York City.

    What you'll do#

    • Support screening and enrollment activities for the Refugee Health Program.
    • Assist caseworkers in connecting clients to mental health, physical healthcare, and benefit services.
    • Develop educational materials to improve client access and navigation of public benefits systems.
    • Deliver workshops to clients as needed.
    • Collaborate on the development and maintenance of a Community Resources Guide through desk research and outreach.
    • Support the creation and implementation of assessment tools regarding client health knowledge and attitudes.
    • Maintain thorough, accurate case file documentation and digital records.
    • Provide translation and interpretation services when necessary.

    What you'll need#

    • Undergraduate level studies in public health, sociology, psychology, human resources, international relations, or a related field.
    • A strong desire to support refugees and migrant communities.
    • Ability to work independently with good judgement and attention to detail.
    • Competency in Microsoft Office, data tracking, and file management.
    • Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
    • Proficiency in Haitian Creole, Arabic, French, or Russian is desired but not required.
    • Must be currently enrolled in or have graduated from a post-secondary institution within the last two years.
