About the role#
The Health Education & Promotion Intern supports the Refugee Health Program in New York. This role assists the team in connecting newly arrived refugees and immigrants to essential health and benefit services. You will work directly with caseworkers and the Health Education & Promotion Coordinator to help clients navigate local systems and access care.
What you'll do#
- Support screening and enrollment activities for the Refugee Health Program.
- Assist caseworkers in connecting clients to mental health, physical healthcare, and benefit services.
- Create educational materials to help clients understand and navigate public benefits.
- Collaborate with the team to develop and update a Community Resources Guide.
- Maintain accurate case file documentation in program folders and spreadsheets.
- Support the creation and testing of assessment tools regarding health knowledge and attitudes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation (within the last 2 years) from a post-secondary institution.
- Undergraduate studies in public health, sociology, psychology, human resources, or international relations.
- Strong interest in supporting refugees and migrant communities.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
- Competency in Microsoft Office and data tracking.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
