The Health Education & Promotion Intern supports the Refugee Health Program (RHP) in New York City. This role assists in the resettlement process by helping newly arrived refugees and immigrants navigate public benefits, healthcare systems, and community resources. This is an unpaid, on-site internship.
What you'll do#
- Support screening and enrollment activities for the Refugee Health Program.
- Assist caseworkers in connecting clients to mental health, physical healthcare, and benefit services.
- Develop educational materials to improve client health literacy and navigation of public benefits.
- Collaborate on the development and updating of a Community Resources Guide.
- Create, test, and implement assessment tools regarding client health knowledge and beliefs.
- Maintain accurate case file documentation and digital client files.
- Provide translation and interpretation services as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation (within the last 2 years) from a post-secondary institution.
- Undergraduate studies in Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, Human Resources, or International Relations.
- Strong commitment to assisting refugees and migrant communities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, data tracking, and file management.
- Ability to work independently with good judgment and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Desired language skills include Haitian Creole, Arabic, French, or Russian.
