Student Nurse Extern - Floor 12

About the role#

The Student Nurse Extern is an unregulated healthcare worker position located on Floor 12. This role provides direct personal support to patients within a hospital setting, working under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses. This is a temporary, part-time position with rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

What you'll do#

• Provide direct personal support and basic care for up to 10 patients.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, toileting, and feeding.
• Document ADLs, including intake and output, and communicate relevant patient information.
• Report any clinical concerns immediately to a direct supervisor.
• Work in accordance with department policies and procedures without performing regulated acts such as medication administration or clinical assessments.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
• Valid CPR certification.
• Ability to provide basic assistive care with supervision and mentoring.
• Understanding of technology use in a clinical environment.
• Understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively within an inter-professional healthcare team.
