About the role#
The Student Nurse Extern is an unregulated healthcare worker position located on Floor 12. This role provides direct personal support to patients within a hospital setting, working under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses. This is a temporary, part-time position with rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct personal support and basic care for up to 10 patients.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, toileting, and feeding.
- Document ADLs, including intake and output, and communicate relevant patient information.
- Report any clinical concerns immediately to a direct supervisor.
- Work in accordance with department policies and procedures without performing regulated acts such as medication administration or clinical assessments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
- Valid CPR certification.
- Ability to provide basic assistive care with supervision and mentoring.
- Understanding of technology use in a clinical environment.
- Understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively within an inter-professional healthcare team.
