About the role#
The Student Nurse Extern on the 7th floor serves as an unregulated healthcare worker providing direct personal support to patients. You will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses to assist with patient care needs. This role does not involve performing regulated acts such as medication administration, vital signs, or clinical assessments.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct personal support and assist with activities of daily living for up to 10 patients per shift.
- Document activities of daily living, including intake and output.
- Report any clinical concerns immediately to your direct supervisor.
- Collaborate with the inter-professional healthcare team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in years 2 through 4 of a nursing program.
- Current CPR certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide basic assistive care under supervision.
- Understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices.
- Ability to use technology effectively and complete mandatory training modules.
